The station was founded May 21, 1954 by the School District of the City of Highland Park, Michigan, the studio and transmitter were located in the high school and the facilities were operated by high school students to provide educational radio broadcasting to the community. When the high school relocated the Community College took over the facility as well as the HPHS buildings. On December 20, 1994, the college closed down, and the station was sold to R.J.
