In recent years, the largest growth has been seen on the regional network in Southern Norway and to destinations abroad. Widerøe was founded on the foundations of two small airlines that had been founded in 1932. The first was Helge Skappel's company, which he owned along with Leiv Brun, Ditlef Smith and Erik Engnæs, that operated a Gipsy Moth.
