William Adama was born on Caprica, the son of Joseph Adama, a civil liberties lawyer and Evelyn Adama, an accountant (Caprica identifies her as Shannon). He was named for his paternal grandfather who was killed in the Tauron Civil War. His mother and sister Tamara were killed in a terrorist bombing of a Caprica City subway when he was eleven and attending Wilson Elementary School.
