All players initially start out on a continent covered with forests, lakes and mountains. The players create the buildings, towns, roads and items of the world. Wurm Online features a fully deformable landscape allowing the players to create pits and hills, flattening and shaping the land using a shovel as the tool. The game world features a separate rock layer that can be mined into to create underground caverns or tunnels.
