Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, Hilal-e-Jurat (Bengali: জিয়াউর রহমান Ji-yaur Rôhman) (19 January 1936 – 30 May 1981) was a Bangladeshi politician and an army officer, who announced the Declaration of Independence of Bangladesh twice, the first being on 26 March 1971 at Kalurghat, Chittagong. A highly decorated and accomplished military officer, he retired from the Bangladesh Army as a Lieutenant General. He was commander of sector 1, transferred to Teldhala from Sabroom in May 1971.
