Located at the junction of the Big Blue and Kansas rivers, the city is the county seat of Riley County. As of the July 2007 census estimate, its population was 51,707, making it the eighth-largest city in Kansas. It is the principal city of the Manhattan, Kansas Micropolitan Statistical Area.
