According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.3 square miles (16.3 km²), of which, 6.0 square miles (15.5 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²) of it (5.23%) is water.
Area residents put the accent on the first syllable of Berlin /ˈbɝ.lɪn/, rather than on the second. It has been said that this was in reaction to the anti-German sentiment that swept across the United States during World War I, and that the accent was previously on the second syllable. The town was originally named Strong's Landing.
