Onondaga Community College is an accredited two-year educational institution that services Onondaga County, New York at three campuses. Onondaga Community College is a college of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and one of 30 locally sponsored community colleges throughout New York State.
The college was founded in 1961 in Syracuse, New York. SUNY OCC opened its first Residence Halls in August 2006.
Several of Onondaga's athletic teams are consistently nationally ranked, and the 2006 and 2007 men's lacrosse team won the NJCAA national championship in May 2006 and 2007. One of the school's top lacrosse players, Kent Squire-Hill, was arrested for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend in January 2008. It has been said that the team may have had the most dominant season in college lacrosse history, finishing the season with a record of 18-0, and 33-0 winning streak. They outscored their opponents 445-80. Head Coach Chuck Wilbur has compiled a career record of 83-11.
The men's basketball program won the 1993 NJCAA Men's Division III Basketball Championship. Dave Pasiak currently coaches the team and is entering his seventh season. Mike Wheeler is entering his fifth season
