The Hultsfred Festival (Hultsfredsfestivalen in Swedish) is an annual music festival held in Hultsfred, Sweden. It takes place at the lake Hulingen during three days in the middle of June, from Thursday to Saturday. Since the first festival in 1986, its attendance has increased from 7,500 visitors to approximately 32,000 people in 2005.
Due to an increase of ticket pricing and what the public recognized as a poor lineup in 2007 (with headliners Ozzy Osbourne, 50 Cent, KoRn and Pet Shop Boys), the festival only succeeded in getting 23,339 paying visitors in 2007 which in comparison with the successful previous years of 2005 and 2006 was considered a failure by media. Since then the festival has struggled economically. In 2008 the festival had 23,383 paying visitors and in 2009 there was 23,543 paying visitors.
With its five different stages, the Hultsfred Festival hosts a large number of bands per year (154 in 2007) from all over Scandinavia and the world alike.
At the 1999 festival, a 19-year-old woman died of suffocation during a concert with Hole.
