In this episode, Detectives Goren and Eames are called in when an arrogant plastic surgeon reports his drug abusive wife missing. Goren and Eames suspect the doctor's earnest arguments to find her are fallacious, especially when they find he has a secret love of his own, but they struggle to find any flaws in the doctor's alibi. After body parts of a decomposed woman wash ashore weeks later, the detectives set a trap, placing a story in the papers claiming this could be from the missing woman, to see how her husband reacts, and their only hope might be to turn his strong ego against him.
This episode revealed many resemblances with the real-life case of Dr. Robert Bierenbaum, who was convicted of murdering his wife, Gail Katz Bierenbaum.
