On the prospect of his return, McKellen has stated that if produced, both he and Patrick Stewart would in fact be portraying the younger versions of their characters through a special effect that apparently is able to make the two actors whole decades younger. This same technique is used in the opening scene of X-Men: The Last Stand.
IMDB's plot summary states: "A young Magneto seeks revenge on the Nazis who killed his family while befriending a young Charles Xavier." It currently lists Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart as definite cast members.
