The episode's cold open begins with the boys (Reese, Malcolm, and Dewey) sitting in their room doing homework as Hal bursts into the room. Hal asks one of the boys to "take the fall" for something he did, and Lois is heard off camera saying "Oh my God" three times, her voice getting louder and more upset each time she says it. Malcolm agrees to take the blame for ten dollars, so Hal drags him into the hallway by his shirt collar.
Hal gets tickets to the Wavetown, USA water park from work. The family all goes, with the exception of Dewey - he can't go because he has an ear infection. Reese brings along Malcolm's nose plug for the ride (Malcolm has sinus problems) and reminded Lois and Hal in the car that he needed to wear it. So as Malcolm is stuck wearing his plug all day, he must spend the entire day getting the nerve to go down the most dangerous slide...
