Mechanicsville is a neighborhood in Knoxville, Tennessee. Historically, the name refers to the oldest portion of the neighborhood nearest downtown Knoxville (often now differentiated as "Old Mechanicsville"), which is the portion of the neighborhood listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district. "New Mechanicsville" lies slightly to the north. Even newer developments to the west of the historic neighborhood, such as the Knoxville News-Sentinel's headquarters building, are often also referred to as being in Mechanicsville though they would not historically have qualified.
Mechanicsville's historic district is made up what is probably the oldest extant neighborhood from Knoxville's antebellum expansion. Some of its Victorian houses, predating most of the historic neighborhoods of North Knoxville, exhibit distinctively Italianate and Gothic influences uncommon in the Queen Anne dominance of the slightly later neighborhoods.
Mechanicsville is also the site of Knoxville College, a historically black college.
