The Nanny Diaries is a 2007 comedy-drama film, based on the novel The Nanny Diaries, by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. Written and directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, it stars Scarlett Johansson, Alicia Keys, Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney; and was produced by Richard N. Gladstein. Annie Braddock, a young working-class woman from northeastern New Jersey, graduates from college with a major in business and a minor in anthropology. She heads to nearby New York City to look for a job in finance, reminded by her mother, a nurse, that she has worked hard for her daughter to have this opportunity. But she walks out of a job interview at Goldman Sachs when she realizes she has no idea who she is. Later, in Central Park, she pulls a young boy from the path of an oncoming segway. He seems to like her, and his mother, who introduces herself as Mrs. X, mishears "Annie" as "nanny", and says she's looking for a new one. Other women soon follow.
