Gideon Defoe is the author of The Pirates! in an Adventure with Scientists, a tale of the true voyage of Charles Darwin and The Pirates! in an Adventure with Whaling (published in the United States as The Pirates! In an Adventure with Ahab), in which the pirates meet with Captain Ahab and help him in the hunt for the legendary white whale in order to pay a debt to impress a girl. A third book called The Pirates! in an Adventure with Communists, was released in September 2006, and a fourth book called, The Pirates! in an Adventure with Napoleon, was released in May 2008. His publishers claim that Gideon started writing stories about pirates to convince a young lady to leave her boyfriend for him (although she didn't). He is also the co-author (with David Strom) of How Animals Have Sex. He also enjoys EastEnders and butter.
