It was released on December 9, 1988 (1988-12-09) in Japan, March 1989 in North America, and August 15, 1991 (1991-08-15) in Europe. The title has been ported to the PC Engine by Hudson Soft, and it was also ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super NES) as part of the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy compilation.
