Maynard H. Jackson High School [MHJHS] is a high school of approximately 1,500 students in fast-developing southeast Atlanta, Georgia, United States community near Grant Park, just south of I-20. The school is a part of Atlanta Public Schools.
The school was formed as Southside High School after Smith High School combined with Roosevelt High School in 1984. In the summer of 2008, the school underwent a name change and became Maynard H. Jackson High School to commemorate the city’s first black mayor, Maynard Jackson.
The school was designated a GE Foundation "College Bound" school in 2002 and received a 5-year, $1 million grant to help increase student readiness for college courses.
The school is home to the district's Information Processing magnet program. As of the 2004-2005 school year the schools principal is Dr. Shirlene Carter. In the 2005-2006 school year 50% of students from Crim High School were sent to attend Southside due to re-zoning.
