It deals with the idea of pyrokinesis and it is revealed that Mulder suffers from a fear of fire caused by a childhood trauma. In Bosham, England, a wealthy elderly man says goodbye to his wife before leaving for work, but suddenly seems to spontaneously combust as his gardener intently watches. In Washington, D.C., Agent Mulder and Agent Scully are alerted to the case by Phoebe Green, a former lover of Mulder's from Oxford University. Phoebe explains how a serial arsonist has been targeting the British aristocracy, burning his victims alive while leaving no trace of evidence. The one thing that seems to link the crimes is that the suspect likes to send love letters to the victims' wives.
