According to a 2003 interview with Bradbury included in a recent printing of the novel and the IMDb, Mel Gibson was at one point attached to the project. Gibson's Icon Productions is listed as one of the production companies. According to the IMDb, this film was originally set for release in the United States on February 9, 2007, but has since been delayed with an unknown date. The IMDb also state that Universal Pictures will now be distributing the film, with Castle Rock Entertainment and Icon Productions still producing.
Darabont has mentioned that he will start long term preparation work for Fahrenheit 451 while filming The Mist.
