After its initial release, Roadrunner Records signed Nickelback and The State was re-released in Canada in September 1999 with an alternate blue cover. It was then released in the US on March 7, 2000, which included completely new album artwork featuring a young boy in a jail cell. This cover then replaced the album's cover in all countries.
