"Do You Think It's Alright?" is a song written by Pete Townshend of The Who. It appears as the eleventh track on the group's first rock opera Tommy (1969). In the song, Tommy's parents debate over whether or not they should leave Tommy with his Uncle Ernie who has "Had a few too many tonight" (probably referring to alcohol). Ultimately, they decide to leave Tommy with Uncle Ernie. This could be viewed as neglectful parenting. However, if they knew Uncle Ernie was a pedophile, they may not have allowed Tommy to be alone with him. In the film version of Tommy three versions of the song are used, with slightly altered lyrics in each one. The first version is a discussion between Tommy's parents about whether they should leave Tommy with Cousin Kevin. The second version is used the same way as on the album, to debate leaving Tommy with Uncle Ernie. The third version is a prelude to "Sparks" where Tommy's parents discuss whether they should leave Tommy gazing at his reflection in a mirror. In all three cases, it's Tommy's mother's lover, instead of father Captain Walker as in the album, absentmindedly saying/singing, "Yes, I think it's alright."
