Easy Company's experiences in the Battle of the Bulge, Siege of Bastogne, are told from the perspective of Technician 5th Grade Eugene Roe, a company medic, as he witnesses death and destruction all around him, yet is rather powerless to help. The company is required to hold ground near the strategic Belgian crossroads town of Bastogne despite shortages of ammunition, food, medical supplies, winter gear, personnel, and inadequate leadership in the form of Lieutenant Norman Dike. The misery of simply "holding the line" is punctuated by occasional combat patrols (one of which goes awry), German assaults, and intermittent heavy shelling, all of which are depicted in the episode.
