"All Alone" is the 61st episode of the HBO drama Six Feet Under. It is the 10th episode of Season 5 (the show's final season) and is important in helping bring the series to a close. It was written by Kate Robin and directed by Adam Davidson.
'All Alone' is the only Six Feet Under episode which does not open with a "death of the week" (the final episode begins with a birth). Nate's death at the end of the previous episode is sufficient, and the episode begins simply with the Fisher family's grief.
In the hours following Nate's death from a brain hemorrhage, David copes with his pain by planning his brother's funeral. He explains to Brenda and Ruth that Nate wanted a green funeral with no embalming or casket, just burial in a plot of land that's protected by a nature preserve. Ruth objects strongly but David bluntly disregards this, determined to stick to his brother's wishes.
With Ruth too bereft to take care of herself, Bettina comes to the house to help. When Ruth learns that there will be no preservation or viewing of Nate's body, she becomes even more distraught. She takes the last opportunity to see her son's body by helping David in the prep room as he washes the blood
