"Ascension" is a 1994 episode of The X-Files television series. It was the sixth episode broadcast in the show's second season. Ascension concerns Mulder's pursuit of Scully, who has been kidnapped by alien abductee Duane Barry. Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) heads to Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)'s apartment and meets with her mother. The next morning Assistant Director Skinner tells Mulder he is too close to the case and orders Alex Krycek to escort him home. While driving through Virginia Barry is stopped for speeding by a police officer, but manages to kill him when Scully, contained in the trunk of his car, distracts the officer. Mulder reviews the tape and figures out that Barry is heading to Skyland Mountain. Krycek informs the Cigarette Smoking Man of this before he departs with Mulder. Mulder and Krycek arrive at Skyland Mountain and Mulder orders the tram-operator to send him up the mountain despite the fact that the cable was just refitted. When Mulder nears the peak, Krycek kills the tram-operator and stops the tram. When Mulder climbs on top of it, Krycek starts it up again in an attempt to kill him, but Mulder makes it to the top safely. When Mulder arrives at the peak
