The Betty White Show is a short lived American sitcom which aired on CBS during the 1977-78 season. The series was produced by MTM Enterprises. Betty White starred as Joyce Whitman, a middle-aged actress, who was starring as a female detective in a fictitious police drama, Undercover Woman (ostensibly based on Angie Dickinson's Police Woman). Much of the humor stemmed from the fact that the show's producer was Whitman's ex-husband, John Whitman (played by John Hillerman), as well as the fact that White and her sidekick on Undercover Woman, a beautiful and much younger actress (played by Caren Kaye), did not like one another and missed no opportunity to trade insults. Also appearing was White's former Mary Tyler Moore Show costar, Georgia Engel. The series was scheduled opposite ABC's Monday Night Football and The NBC Monday Movie and failed to generate viewers. The show was quickly canceled after fourteen episodes. The series was briefly rerun on Nick at Nite and TV Land in the 1990s.
