Jeff is an 11 year old white male with curly black hair and was recently orphaned and living in New York City. He was listening to his aunt and uncle argue over custody of him in another room when he heard a noise outside his high rise apartment window. A man broke in from outside even though he was at least 10 stories above ground. This man was Phineas Bogg a time traveler known as a Voyager. Jeff's Rottweiler, Ralph, attacked Bogg by biting his Guidebook and not letting go. The struggle led to Jeff falling out the broken window and Bogg immediately jumped after him and warped him into another time to save his life.
Bogg and Jeff fall from the sky and land safely in a marsh but now they are in Egypt in 1450 BC. Bogg's time machine, called an Omni, can only go as far ahead on the calendar as 1970 but Jeff is from 1982 and so Bogg cannot take him back home....
