Royal Rumble (2008) was the twenty-first annual Royal Rumble professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It took place on January 27, 2008 at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York and was the first WWE pay-per-view broadcast in high definition. As a tradition, the winner of the Royal Rumble match received a match at WrestleMania for his choice of the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, or ECW Championship. Similar to the previous year, there was an uneven distribution of participants in the Royal Rumble match between the brands (with eleven from Raw, ten from SmackDown, seven from ECW, and two special guest entrants).
