On his first case back from administrative leave, LAPD detective Michael Raines investigates the shooting death of Sandy Boudreau. As the investigation unfolds, he finds himself once more plagued by hallucination of the victim not a ghost or a vision, but a projection of his own compulsion to solve the murder. When Raines discovers a shoebox full of cash in the victim's apartment, he realizes that she was working as a call girl. And when a private investigator turns up dead, shot through the head, digital photos from his computer reveal a sordid arrangement between the P.I. and the call girl that leads Raines to the killer of both.
