Awakening of Rip is an 1896 American short black-and-white silent drama film starring Joseph Jefferson. It is based upon the story of Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving.
In 1903 it was one of a number of short films to be edited into Rip Van Winkle, an abridged version the story and was later also featured in More Treasures from American Film Archives 1894-1931. In 1995 it was added by the Librarian of Congress to the National Film Registry.
The film was produced and distributed by American Mutoscope Company. Production took place in August 1896 in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, USA. The copyright being register on February 4, 1897.
According to the Internet Movie Database the film was made in a 68 mm format with an aspect ratio of 1.36 : 1.
