Leslie was commonly seen at the Engineering station, to the left of the bridge's turbolift doors. He was also seen as a Helmsman, Navigator, Science Officer, Security Officer, Medical Assistant, and twice, as Duty Officer, when Kirk wasn't present. Because of the red shirt he and other expendable characters wore, the phenomenon spawned the science fiction cliche of the redshirt character.
