First conceptualized in 2004 and due to launch in the summer of 2007, VUDU promises instant access to thousands of movies directly from the TV, without requiring a PC or Cable TV service.

Founder Tony Miranz and Co-Founder and Chairman Alain Rossmann oversee VUDU's team of consumer electronics and technology veterans from TiVo, WebTV, Openwave, 2Wire, Slim Devices, OpenTV, and Danger. For two years, the company has operated in a stealth mode as it has systematically honed every facet of the product to ensure that it delivers upon the consumer dream.

VUDU has struck unprecedented deals with seven major studios and numerous independent and international distributors to offer thousands of titles, from mainstream new releases to smaller, more specialized films. Via their broadband Internet connection, VUDU users will have the ability, on a studio-specific basis, to rent or buy movies and begin viewing them instantly.

VUDU is venture-backed by Benchmark Capital's Bill Gurley and Greylock Partners' David Sze and Roger Evans.
