I think User types (e.g. what you see in My Profile) should include somewhere to put IM addresses (MSN, AOL, ICQ, Jabber, GTalk etc.). Nowadays they are as important as email addresses or homepage url's
I agree - IM is a primary contact method for a lot of users.
This is true, but there are privacy concerns too with respect to putting your IM address into a publicly readable database. We need to consider carefully before adding it.
