In the World Chess Championship 2010, the current world champion, Viswanathan Anand, will be challenged for the World Chess Championship title by Veselin Topalov. The match is scheduled to take place during April 2010, in Sofia, Bulgaria. The defending champion is Viswanathan Anand, who won the World Chess Championship 2007 (a tournament with eight players) and defended the title in the World Chess Championship 2008 (a match against former champion Vladimir Kramnik). The challenger to the title was determined in a match between former FIDE World Champion Veselin Topalov and the winner of the Chess World Cup 2007, Gata Kamsky. On February 26, 2009, Topalov won the match and earned the right to be the challenger. Kamsky earned the right to play in the Challenger match by winning the Chess World Cup 2007. Topalov has been given direct entry to a "Challenger Match" against Kamsky. The reason lies in the complications in reunifying the world title in 2006.
