A scientist working for Roush Industries in Phoenix, Arizona is exposed to the black oil and an alien gestates and bursts from his body by the next day. At FBI Headquarters agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) reports to a group of Assistant Directors on the events he witnessed in the X-Files movie including the spaceship and him witnessing aliens gestating from human beings. None of the panel believes him and even partner Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) declines to back up his claims. The Cigarette Smoking Man reports to the Syndicate on the alien in Phoenix, confident that he'll be able to kill it. Mulder, who is working on restoring the burned X-Files is told by Skinner that reassignment for him and Scully to the X-Files has been denied....
