In the late 1980s, with the advent of 103.1 KTPI, the station flipped to a Regional Mexican format as La Z 1470. The station was later sold to High Desert Broadcasting who made the station apart of the Radio Unica network in 1997, later changing to the Radio Lazer network. In 2004, Radio Lazer was moved to High Desert Broadcasting's newly acquired station KCEL, and KUTY flipped to an English Talk format as NewsTalk 1470 under guidance...
