Johnson played high school football at Olympia High School in Orlando until breaking his leg his senior year. Johnson was a track superstar at Olympia High, having finished second in the 2004 Florida 4A state championships, only behind 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Walter Dix in his senior year. In addition, Johnson also finished his senior season posting PRs of 10.38 (the nation's 7th best in 2004) and 21.30 in the 100m and 200m respectively. His junior year he qualified for the finals of the Florida State meet with a preliminary time of 10.83. Walter Dix won the event with a 10.46 in the finals, Johnson placed 4th with a time of 10.66.
