Our Purpose:
Aside from providing entertainment through diverse programming, WIDB provides a radio service to the SIUC community; allowing the student body, administration, faculty and staff a channel of communication for the discussion and review of student, University, and community problems. WIDB is here to offer training and an active outlet for any students interested in broadcasting.
History:
WIDB signed on the air on Sunday April 12, 1970 and was housed in the basement of Wright Hall for the first 17 years of operation. WIDB moved to the Student Center in 1987, and continues to bring Southern Illinois University Carbondale cutting edge music, and student-oriented news and sports programming. On Wednesday January 26, 2005, WIDB made history again with the launch of our second station. Now WIDB consists of two sister stations, or two separate web streams; WIDB The Revolution and WIDB The Remedy.
Formats:
The Revolution is a dedicated Rock 'n Roll station with a twist; the majority of the artists heard on the station are not what you typically expect in a "dedicated" Rock 'n Roll format. We exist for two purposes, the first of which being to rock you hard, the second is to bring you the best of the best music currently hitting the scene. Just to boast and throw some names, currently you can catch Thurston Moore, Animal Collective, Black Lips, Liars and Spoon, just to name a few.
A beacon of light in this dark world of Top 40 discharge, WIDB is proud to bring you our very own Remedy. A cure to the common crock of crap that you catch on the airwars, The Remedy is all about alliteration and rhyme. That's what you should always get from hip-hop. We keep it fresh with hot cuts from Shape of Broad Minds, Common, Aesop Rock and Talib Kweli.
Media:
In addition to our web streams, WIDB can be accessed via university cable channel 5 in the dorms.
