Lynne Irene Spears (née Bridges; born May 4, 1955) is an author and the mother of pop singer Britney Spears and teen actress Jamie Lynn Spears.
Lynne was born in McComb, Mississippi. Her parents were Barney O'Field Bridges an American G.I. (1919-1978) and London-born Lilian Irene Portell (1924-1993) who married in Hendon, London 1945. Spears has English and some distant Maltese ancestry through her maternal great-grandfather, Edward Portelli who was Maltese and emigrated to England where he married Alice Taylor.. Spears has an older brother, Barry "Sonny" Bridges (born 1951) and older sister Sandra Bridges Covington (1947-2007). In 1975, Lynne married James "Jamie" Spears (born July 7, 1952), the father of her three children. She opened and worked in her own day care in the Spears’ hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana, until Britney, then age 11, became a member of the new Mickey Mouse Club for the 1993-1994 season.
