Persimmon

Persimmon (1893-1908) was an outstanding British-bred and British-trained Thoroughbred race horse and sire who won the Epsom Derby in 1896. This was the first horse race ever filmed, by Robert W. Paul and Birt Acres. As a four-year-old he won the Eclipse Stakes and Ascot Gold Cup, and is the most recent Epsom Derby winner to have won the Ascot Gold Cup.
