Persimmon (1893-1908) was an outstanding British-bred and British-trained Thoroughbred race horse and sire who won the Epsom Derby in 1896. This was the first horse race ever filmed, by Robert W. Paul and Birt Acres.
As a four-year-old he won the Eclipse Stakes and Ascot Gold Cup, and is the most recent Epsom Derby winner to have won the Ascot Gold Cup. His full brother, Diamond Jubilee won the Triple Crown in 1900.
