In this episode, Detectives Goren and Eames investigate the case of a woman brought into the emergency room as a result of being poisoned.
As Goren and Eames close in, they discover that the victim suffered a form of dioxin poisoning. Then, they focus their attention on her husband, a well-known dentist, especially after she dies. They soon learn the man believed his wife was having an affair and, as a dentist, he may have had the knowledge to be able to mix a toxin. Further inquiry reveals the deceased had made friends with a woman whose sister died of the same symptoms years earlier, bringing another suspect to light.
While on the trail of their suspect, the detectives discover a clue, taking their investigation in an entirely new direction.
