Originally a design for a Christmas card in 1964, and first exhibited as a sculpture in New York in 1966, the image has been reproduced and parodied in posters, pictures, jewelry, and greeting cards. Indiana has created several variants as paintings and screenprints The original Love outside sculpture, created in 1970 of cor-ten steel, stands in the sculpture garden at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
