Introducing Acre

Acre is Metaweb's hosted application environment that includes an Application Editor and the Acre Templating Language. With Acre, and some knowledge of HTML and JavaScript programming, you can create dynamic, browser-based applications that draw upon Freebase data. Some features of Acre include:

Reusable file libraries - no need to re-invent the wheel for every application, with the invocation of a single command you can re-use files from other applications you've created. See something in someone else's application you like? Clone it and modify as necessary! This is a great way for novice developers to get started creating Freebase applications.

One stop file creation - with the Application Editor you can create HTML and CSS files, Template Files, Script Files, and MQL query files, everything you need for developing Freebase applications, all in the same place.

Support for multiple output formats - need RSS, XML, RDF, or CSV output? Acre can deliver! With Acre you get control over file formats not directly supported by the Freebase API.

Applications in your personal namespace - Acre applications are saved as workspaces in your personal namespace, where each application becomes its own website. When other users visit your Acre workspace, they can view the code for you files and apps, and clone them to their own workspaces. You can also invite others to contribute to your application’s development, and view a history of contributors and edits.

For more information about the Acre hosting environment, the Application Editor, and the Acre Scripting Language, check out our Acre Commands and API Reference Guides, Getting Started with the Application Editor, and some of the featured apps and sample files created by other users. To get started using Acre, just register with Freebase.
