On Valentine's Day, Niles cancels an evening at the Opera with Frasier to be with his girlfriend, Mel. Frasier decides to make an overture to a beautiful woman who has been coming to the opera on the same nights as them, but asks Martin to come along with him, since Frasier can't appear alone, or with another woman. Martin grudgingly agrees, rather than face an evening at home while Roz and Daphne are watching sad "chick" movies (starting with Sophie's Choice).
