The opera "La rondine" by Giacomo Puccini was left unfinished at the composer's death in 1924. As often in his life, he was dissatisfied with the result of his work and revised it many times, to the point of making three versions with two different endings. The orchestration of the third version was completed in authentic Puccinian style almost 80 years later by Italian composer Lorenzo Ferrero at the request of Teatro Regio di Torino and subsequently premiered there on March 22, 1994.
"I consider it a restoration and, as such, creative. I tried to respect the Puccinian sensibility and I hope that it emphasises above all the different, finer dramaturgic structure of the third act."
Lorenzo Ferrero
