Slide Mountain

Slide Mountain is the perfect introduction to big-air flying.  In spring and fall months, fat and mellow thermals will often take you well above the mountain top, often to altitudes of 11K or 12K.  In summer months, even bigger thermals can provide the opportunity for XC flights out in the desert.  As an east-facing site, however, Slide is liable to get blown out early in the summer months as the prevailing westerlies set in.&nbsp... more

Slide Mountain is the perfect introduction to big-air flying.  In spring and fall months, fat and mellow thermals will often take you well above the mountain top, often to altitudes of 11K or 12K.  In summer months, even bigger thermals can provide the opportunity for XC flights out in the desert. 

As an east-facing site, however, Slide is liable to get blown out early in the summer months as the prevailing westerlies set in.  Do not attempt to launch after it starts blowing over the back!  You will have a very rough and unpleasant ride down to the Washoe LZ. less
