All your base are belong to us became an internet phenomenon in 2001 which was based on the opening animation of the Japanese scrolling space shooter known as Zero Wing developed by Toaplan for the European Sega Mega Drive video game console. The gameplay was your typical run-of-the-mill space shooter. However, the subtitles that appear during the introductory scene was far from that. It is considered to be the worst translation of Japanese to English to find its way to the public. The scene includes a series of butchered English translations, but the words, "All your base are belong to us" was the basis for the flash animation depicting the slogan and is now commonly used on the Internet as well as in the world of online gaming in various humorous ways.
