The comic is set in a world in which larger-then-life pulp heroes and villians existed. Main heroes in the 1930s and later included the Doc Savage-esque "Professor Zeppelin" and the Shadow-esque "Lazarus", and villains such as the Black Death. All were the result of a radioactive meteor which landed in the US in the 1800s, turning an escaped convict into the Black Death, and resulting in various heroes and villains emerging. But after WWII, thanks to the efforts of Professor Zeppelin, most of the science heroes and villians seems to have disappeared. Actually, SOS, an agency created by Zeppelin actually keeps it all under wraps.
