Coaches

We could add it as another property and type as you've done. That would be pretty straightforward. I guess the fuzzy part when it comes to baseball is whether to merge together the idea of managers and coaches. Is it weirder to have a historical coaches property in addition to a historical managers property or to have managers listed as coaches?

well, to tweak what i made. I think it should be current manager (limit 1), historical managers(just like it is now), current coaches (like I did but eliminate the "to" and "from"), and historical coaches (just like i created. Letting a person input the name, coaching position, from, and to) all under the baseball type. Then, for the other sports you could do the same thing, but instead of managers, it would be coaches. For example on american football type : Keep current head coach(limit one), add historical head coaches(just like baseball), add current coaches (same as baseball), historical coaches(same as baseball). May sound a little confusing, but hopefully you understand what i mean. Tell me what you think or if you have additional questions. Thank You

Well, the alternative is to do it like I've done already on American Football coach - see Vince Lombardi, for example. This seems more elegant -- but I wonder if mixing coaches and managers in baseball would confuse people.

I see your example. This is good if you are looking at the coach itself but does not inform us who the different coaches currently are. For example : Say I wanted to know who the offensive coordinator is for the chicago bears. I believe that the user would search for the chicago bears and expect to find their offensive coordinator on that topic page. Then lets say they get a new offensive coordinator. We would put the new coordinator where the old one used to be and put the old one in historical coaches. I understand your issue with baseball, but "manager" is the title of the head coach. You cant make baseball like american football because it is a different sport and the names of the head coaches are different. In conclusion, I think what you have for american football is great. It is missing one thing though. We have no where to put the other kinds of coaches that a football team has. If we could add that feature along with every other sport, I believe that it would add much more relevant information to the current team.

Well it looks like sports coaches is done. Tell me what you think of it. I still need to update the documentation. I really think it turned out well. I plan on working on some other sports either today or over the weekend. I would really appreciate it if you added it to the baseball domain though. I think it would be a great addition to the Freebase community.
