The script for the film was reportedly written in May 2008, and filming occurred in late 2008 to early 2009. In an interview with Total Film, Aaron Johnson confirmed that the film will stay true to the adult nature of the comic series by featuring a large amount of profanity and graphic violence and that it had already received an R rating by the MPAA.
