Written in 2006, and published the following year, Moving A Nation to Care: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and America's Returning Troops was a grassroots call to action designed to put the then under-discussed issue of PTSD in our returning troops front and center before the American public. In addition to presenting interviews with Iraq and Afghanistan veterans suffering with PTSD, this book was the most comprehensive resource to date for concerned citizens who wanted to understand the complex political, social and health-related issues of PTSD, with an eye toward "moving our nation to care" to do what is necessary to help our fighting men and women.
Ilona Meagher is editor of the online journal PTSD Combat: Winning the War Within and author of the PTSD Timeline, a comprehensive database of PTSD incidents. Appearing in media outlets from the New York Times to the American Conservative, she has testified before Congress on the issues explored in Moving a Nation to Care and is the winner of the NIU 2008 Illinois Journalist of the Year Award-Student Scholarship.
